For my initial arrival in Bali, the allure of comfort, complete with the indulgence of a pool and spa, was a must. I wanted the first week of my new life to be a smooth transition, and staying in an affordable hotel, but with all of the amenities, was the perfect option.

The freedom of jumping on a scooter – affectionately referred to as a “scootie” – is one of my favorite aspects of life in Bali. One “vodka bottle” of petrol is only a few dollars and nearly fills the tank.

From my first day in Bali, and falling over in the middle of an intersection, I have been hooked on scooties – fresh air and freedom at an affordable price, need I say more!?

Bargain Bounties: Mastering the Art of Haggling

When it comes to markets and souvenirs, channel your inner negotiator. Bali’s markets are a treasure trove of affordable goodies, from colorful sarongs to handmade crafts. Remember, bargaining is an art – and you’re the artist! I am the absolute worst at haggling. My son loves to call me “the world’s biggest” pushover. It’s SO true!!

Nature is Bali’s most generous host. Seek out the island’s free treasures, from sunsets at Uluwatu to sunrises at Mount Batur. Mother Nature has a way of providing the most awe-inspiring experiences without charging an entrance fee – well, that’s mostly true. There is usually a fee for most activities, but it’s pennies to the dollar and helps support locals, so worth, well, every penny. Huge bonus if you are able to give a little extra!!

Bali’s attractions don’t have to burn a hole in your pocket. Discover the island’s stunning waterfalls, visit ancient temples, and hike scenic trails – all without breaking the bank. It’s proof that Bali’s beauty is accessible to all.

One thing to note, that was a particular pet-peeve to me, is that most, possibly all, tours have a 2-person minimum. So for those of us who travel solo, be prepared to purchase two tickets for most activities. The price is still low, but as a long-time single person, I found it increasingly irritating to have to buy two tickets for activities.

The price for all four of these blissful activities added together is less than the price of a typical dinner in the U.S.
